Patricia Cahill to speak at Catholic Cancer Support Group at Our Lady of Victory on August 10th, 2010 in Centerville

7:00pm - 9:00pm

The Catholic Cancer Support Group at Our Lady of Victory will hold its next monthly meeting on Tuesday, August 10th, 2010 at 7 p.m. at Our Lady of Victory in Centerville. The Support Group is faith based but all are welcome: cancer patients, survivors, family and friends. Reservations are not needed.

The meeting will start with a Mass and Anointing of the Sick at Our Lady of Victory Church, and then it moves over to the Parish Center. This month, Patricia A. Cahill of West Barnstable, Chair of Hospice and Palliative Care of Cape Cod, will speak on "What is Hospice?"

Patricia Cahill was the Vice President/Government Relations of the Catholic Health Association from 1979 to 1982. She moved from that position to the Archdiocese of New York where she served as President and CEO of Calvary Hospital, a diocesan sponsored facility and the only acute care hospital in the United States solely dedicated to the care of the advanced cancer patient. In 1986, she left Calvary to become Health Care Coordinator of the Archdiocese of New York, working directly for John Cardinal O’Connor. In the succeeding nine years, she served in two additional capacities in the health care ministry of the Archdiocese, continuing to report directly to the Cardinal.
In 1996, Miss Cahill was chosen as the first President/CEO of Catholic Health Initiatives (CHI), the civil corporate partner of Catholic Health Care Federation. That organization has flourished in every way in its ten year history. She retired from CHI in 2003 and at the present time is Chair of the Board of Directors of Covenant Health Systems, Lexington, Mass. and a member of the Board of Regents and Board of Trustees of Seton Hall University in South Orange, New Jersey and Chair of Hospice and Palliative Care of Cape Cod, a not for profit health care provider located in Massachusetts.

Future meetings will continue to take place at Our Lady of Victory at 230 South Main Street, Centerville on every second Tuesday of the month. For more information, contact Mary Lees at (508) 771-1106 or contact the Parish Office at (508) 775-5744.
